Regarding MiM Programs

• Posted by - ravibhandari2006 - on 5 November 2012 - 6:33am

Sir,
I am currently pursuing my Masters in Technology from a reputed institution of India. I am interested in programs concerning Entrepreneurship in particular. I want to pursue MiM Program right after my graduation (without work experience). Please suggest me top institutes offering such courses worldwide.

Thank You.

Ravi.

Hi Ravi,

thank you for your question.

In general, it is a bit unusual that you do a Master directly after your Master. Ususally, people do a Master to start their career afterwards. Then, after some years, they consider an additional Master such as the MBA. Anyway, I am sure you have your reasons - but keep in mind that you can still do a Master after some years in job.

My second comment: Please keep in mind that a Master in Management (MIM) and a Master in Entrepreneurship are two different program types. The MIM provides a general overview on management functions whereas the Master in Entrepreneurship deepens your knowledge in that area. If you still want to go fo a MIM I would suggest a program that includes some entrepreneurial courses or electives as well as a venture lab or business plan challenge in the curriculum.

Finally, your question on good programs. Please understand that we take a neutral position here. We don't recommend programs cause the preferences may be very individual - instead we try to help that people can define what "good" means and find "appropriate" program by themselves.

Please keep in mind that most MIM graduates start to work in the country where they did their master. Hence, carefully select a number of countries where you would like to work later on.

Once you have selected the countries where you want to work, please make sure that you are able to work in terms of visa conditions. You can find this out by contacting your embassy in the respective country.

Next, make sure that you choose programs that have some experience with people from your country. It is always safer if you study a master where other people from your country have studied and successfully started their career afterwards than in a program that does not have any experience with people form your country.

Finally, you can have a look at some rankings - just to get a sense of the recognition a program has - and on accreditations.

Best wishes
Thomas
