Msc VS MBA

    Hi All,

I am an internet entreprenuer, A computer engineer by profession, currently running my ecommerce store for the last 9 months. Before starting my venture i had an exp. of 15 months with a digital and marketing agency.

I want to take my career to next level by getting a management degree, not sure about my specialization between consulting or marketing. I want to apply for the Msc management programs in europe.

I am confused between applying for Msc or MBA beacuse a lot of people have told me that since i have some work exp., i should apply for MBA.

Now my question is that, which would be more helpful in taking my career to next level- MSc or MBA ?

      Hi there,

in general, the Master in Management (MIM) is for people with no or only less work experience who want to start their career. The MBA, in contrast, is for people with work experience who want to give their career a new direction.

In your situation, however, you could do both. You are not too old for a Master in Management (MIM) although you may be one of the oldest in class - and you are old enough for an MBA because some schools just require 2 years of work experience.

If you have some years of work experience I would always go for an MBA because you will meet more experienced people there form which you learn. In an MIM you mostly meet people with no work experience.

Thank you Thomas, i have one more ques. in mind

which is better, getting into a top ranked europe college for MIM+CEMS program or getting an admit in tier 2/3 mba college ?

I am concerned about the after grad job prospects. i have heard that people with less work exp have trouble landing a job after mba

          Hi there,

the problem is: It is nearly impossible to generalize. It depends on so many factors including your academic records, your prior experience, your personality (e.g. how well do you do the interviews?), the career service of a school etc.

My personal opinion is: I would go for the MIM CEMS program as compared to an second or third tier MBA program. Why?

          1. because the network to firms likely is better at CEMS / MIM than in the MBA program
          2. because the reputation among firms likely is better
          3. because you can do an MBA later on........

          Best
