MiM Aspirant

    Hi!

I'm Praseeth Kumar from India. I completed by B.E. in Mechanical Engineering in 2012 & by God's grace got recruited into an B2C organization called Titan Industries Limited here in India. I've been working since July 2012 till present, and my job is more related to the business side than technical. This experience eventually made me realize my interest for a career in Management. But the hiccup is that my work experience seems to be less for an MBA programme, that's when I found out about the MiM programme.

I'm looking for the 2014 intake for MiM in the UK. It would be really great & helpful if you could advise me on my chances of getting into good universities in the UK that offer MiM for undergraduates from the Engineering background with about 1-2 years work experience.

    Cheers!

      Hi Thomas!

Thanks alot for your reply! Regarding the options you recommended espeically the 3rd one, truth is I did have the same thoughts initially. I personally felt that staying here for another year might not certainly increase my knowledge as far as business managemnt is concerned. The 1 year experience I've had though has been great & I'd like to capitalize on it but the thing is after a year & a half or so the learning gets kind of stagnant, hence I wish to use this valuable time for a course that would enhance by knowledge on managment, and I felt MiM would be ideal.

So I'd go with the first choice you gave me! I feel UK is the ideal option for me, however I'd like to try in NUS Singapore as well. Please advise :)

      Cheers!

      Hi Praseeth,

thank you for your question. When starting the Master's you will have about 2 years of postgraduate professional experience, correct? With this you are somewhat on the edge - you can do a Master in Management or an MBA.

As for the the MIM, you are eligible for most programs. Just use our filter "Entry requirements => first degree in business NOT required" to search for appropriate programs.

As for the MBA, you may find schools that only require 2 years of work experience. Or, if your target program requires 3 years, you may need to work another year and then start your MBA in 2015.

From the outside perspective (and without knowing you at all), I would recommend you to consider the third option (working a bit more and applying for an MBA with 3 years of work experience). This gives you enought experience to understand the business world; e.g., you will have your first projects behind you, your first succesfull experiences but maybe also some les successful; you will be able to bring this experience into the classroom; you are not depending on an MBA because you will be rooted in business and any future employer will see that you are not a beginner anymore; and you will have more time to save money.

Of course, if you hate your job, if you find your job options in general as being low, if you need education now it may be different - but if you kind of feel comfortable in your current position... why not exploiting that opportunity a bit more to gain experience - and then add an MBA that gives you a new push?

Just a thought meant as an inspiration to re-consider your plans and find a decision maybe more solid whatever you decide for.

      Best wishes
      Thomas
