MBA or master in management ?!
Posted by - ramylebanon - on 11 August 2012 - 12:02am
hello,
i just need some advise, i had my B.A. in finance from C.N.A.M. university from Paris and i have a 1year and 8 months experience as a full time intern (HR department) and now i am an employee ( 4 months ago) in the HR department in a well reputable bank in Lebanon.
now i have to take the decision MIM or MBA ?
i guess that only 2 years of experience wan't allow me to take full advantage of the MBA program, on the other hand, i am thinking to pursue my career in Europe (mainly France, UK, or germany) or even US, and i know that the MBA in these markets is much more important from MIM.
since i am a recruitment officer, i feel like i have to get special qualifications that allow me to enter a multinational company,so please help me, should i go to MIM (in a lebanese university) or wait for one more year (so i should have 1.5years experience + 1.8 years fulle time intern, so approx 3 years of experience in the HR field) and go for the MBA program in a multinational university (ESA).
and if i do the MIM would i have the chance to get a good job in europe ? or i need to have an MBA to take me seriously?thank you in advance for your help, appreciate it

hello Thomas,
first i want to thank you for your reply,
and just one more question : I've decided to do my MIM in a local university (in partnership with the University of Bordeaux I & IV and the University of Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille ) then i have decided to take my MBA or EMBA (it depends on the years of experience) from ESA (in partnership with ESCP europe)
1st : do you think that is the right path for a recruitment officer in the HR department ?
2nd : do you think that i even have the chance to enter the ESCP university ? do i have the right profile?sorry for my many questions, and thank you in advance for spending your time in replying,
Best regards,

Hi there,
thank you for your question.
I am a bit confused, however. You already have a job as HR manager at a renowned bank in Lebanon, correct? Why do you want to do a Master now? If you really want to work as HR manager I suggest that you work some years and gain experience - and then do a Master.
The other question is: Which Master?
If you want to keep on working as HR manager - why don't you do a Master in HR Management?
MIM and MBA make only sense in my opinion if you want to move on beyond HR management.Best wishes
Thomas

Hi there,
thank you for your question. Here is my advice:
FIRST
If you are happy with your current job position keep on working.
If you are not happy decide for a postgraduate program.SECOND
If you would like to work in Europe, go for an European school. The likelihood that you find a job in Europe is much higher if you have a European degree that local firms know and if you can profit from a European school's network.THIRD
If you have decided that you
(1) want to study
(2) want to study in Europego for an MIM if you have less then 2 or 3 years of work experience after your graduation;
go for an MBA if you have at minimum 2 years (more would be better) of work experience after your Bachelor graduation. There maybe other ways and options of course - but by this I provide you a straight forward approach that should help you disentangle your question into its subquestions.
Best wishes
Thomas
