Evaluation of profile for MIM

  • Posted by - MOHIT KUMAR - on 27 September 2014 - 8:19pm

    Dear Thomas Sir,
I completed my bachelors in Economics from University of Delhi in July, 2013. I scored 66% over the three years, which is above average considering the marking system of the university.
I appeared for various Indian management entrance exams last year; I appeared for GMAT in Jan, 2014 and I scored 650(q49, v30), AWA- 4.5/6, IR- 7/8.
Since I was not satisfied with my performance, and also didn't have much idea about MIM, I decided to wait another year. During the mean time, I cleared intermediate level of 'Chartered Accountant' course, run by the ICAI.
This year my preparation is better, and I believe that I can reach 700s in GMAT.
But the problem with my profile, I believe, is that I have no internships or work experience. I was involved in various activities during college, but after graduating from college, I have been pretty much focusing on studying and preparing for GMAT, and other management entrance exams. I intend to appear for GMAT in Dec, 2014.
I have decided to send my score to the following 5 institutes:
    1 ESCP EUROPE
    2 ESADE BUSINESS SCHOOL
    3 ESSEC BUSINESS SCHOOL
    4 SINGAPORE MANAGEMENT UNIVERSITY
    5 LSE
Can you help me evaluate my profile? And how good are my chances of securing admission into one of the above?

      Hi there,

have you read my MIM eBook already? I suggest that you do this first (and thoroughly). It will teach you the fundamental knowledge about Masters in Management (MIM) and also provides you with a methodology how to identify quality programs, compare programs such as the programs you mentioned, and finally identify programs that fit your profile.

      Best wishes
      Thomas

        Hi there,

through my eBook you will learn a lot about business masters, whether Masters in Management (MIM), MBA or specialized Masters. This alone will change your view and you will learn that some of your assumptions - e.g., why do you need work experience or internships for a MIM? - are not correct. This will simplify your life on one hand and redirect your focus on the actual questions (What do you want from a business master? Which programs help you achieve this goal? And which profile do you need to get there?).

With this knowledge in mind, you will go back to your selection of schools and carefully screen them again. Then you will apply my suggestions of finding answers for your questions: Do these schools help you achieve your goals? And what are their requirements / what are yoru chances of getting it?

I think a future Master in Management or MBA student should be able to order and download a book at amazon - so, I trust that eventually you will be able to do it. Read it carefully and think about my thoughts and approach. That's my recommendation at least.

        Best wishes
        Thomas
