Clarity regarding SAI Admissions and a little more(I doubt the little)

    Hi Thomas,

It's has been of great help and pleasure to have your website running, as this gives me almost all the information I need regarding MIM. I am planning to join the 2015-2016 classes, and have read your book regarding the proper time of getting into it and college selection, length of course and oppurtunities, I have selected the following 4 colleges as my preferred destination:

    1. HEC, Paris
    2. ESCP, Europe
    3. Essec, France
    4. Grenoble Graduate School of Business, France

I want to ask two things in particular, first being the SAI admission process. As i found out, ESCP has ust one way of applying, that's the SAI. Whereas, HEC has it's own in house application form and process. This is where I am confused. Does applying through SAI means application through HEC's own application form won't be neccesary? And the deadlines of SAI and HEC doesn't match which made me think about it more, as what shall be done. Regarding the four sessions, I am already late for the first two sessions, because I am yet to appear for my GMAT and preparing.(which makes me legible for the 4th and last session).
Thus this means, the chances of getting into the colleges are lesser and the chance of the admission office getting back to me and suggesting that my application has somethings which are potential for some changes which would make my application better, is gone?

My second request to you is (I know, you get this a lot, and probably scratch your head, that why they are asking the same thing, but I really didn't find any profile here with my background), can you please provide me a little perspective on my profile (yea...it finally sounds as a profile evaluation, I tried my best to not use that phrase).

I am an architect by profession, 24 years old, completed one year in the job(by the time i apply, it would be nearing 2 years) in the largest construction company in India (Larsen & Toubro), graduated from a well recognised institution with 7.0 CGPA, Higher Secondary = 86% (the highest being 92% as my state board marks very stringently),
Senior Secondary = 67% (I know, this is the biggest let down for my profile, but I have reasons for that, which I think I can make the admission directors understand if they give me a chance).
Have participated in numerous charitable works (as part of my school curriculum, as i was in a missionary boarding school)
Captained school volley-ball team.(although it was in junior levels).
Have being the tour leader and co-ordinator in all the educational tours conducted during my 5 year architecture course.
And love being involved in current affairs, debates, and philosphical talks with people of different culture, and exploring and understanding their values.

According to you, what are my chances, and if I look like a weak contender, how much GMAT score do you suggest me to score (which again has set my application date to the last, as i am from a totally different background, architecture courses rarely go into quants and stuffs for which i need much time to prepare, but I can analyse problems and give solutions, as my profession in design demands). I am really interested in management consulting as my near future career path.

Thomas, I know, this is a damn big letter, and again, you might be pulling your hair off by gazing at my ability to write such a big letter. But as I went through your book, I learnt one very important thing, that being, don't stop until everything is clear in front of your eyes, and I am quite in need of help, being not able to find anyone from architecture background.

I would again like to thank you for the efforts you do for us aspirants. I am in debt to your efforts for us all. I would really happy is you to take some time out of your schedule and think about my case, and come out with some solution / response, that would really help me out. And if evreything goes fine, I hope you would be happier to see me ending in one of my preferred schools. :)

    Thanking you,

    Subhomoy

      Hi Thomas,

      Here are the condensed queries:

      1. Is applying through SAI admissions sufficient for application to HEC Paris, or one have to apply throuhg the college's own application too? (and the deadlines for both ways of applying differ, thus that mean anything)

      1. Would I have a disadvantage, and the competition high, if I apply for 3rd & 4th round of application?

      1. The following are my school preferences:

         a.) HEC Paris

         b.) ESCP Europe

         c.) Essec France

         d.) Universita Bocconi

e.) Grenoble Graduate School of Business

(the first three being the real choices)

      1. Here is my profile and based on that can you suggest me the pratical GMAT score i should be targetting for getting in to the schools.

         - Secondary Education - 86% (the topper being 92%)

         - Higher Secondary Education - 67% (I know this is a let down)

         - Graduate Degree - 7.0 CGPA (in Bachelor of Architecture)

         - Working for the pst one year as an architect in the biggest construction company in India.

         - Being into many philantrophic works (as it was apart of my missionary school curriculum).

         - School volleyball captain.

         - Being the team leader and the co-ordinator for all the educational tours conducted during my 5 years architectural course.

         - And love being involved in current affairs, debates and philosophical talks with people of different culture, and understanding their values.

That's it. I want to know the realities of my profile(how opt i am for the above mentioned schools) as my background is a totally different offset from business. How much GMAT score should I be targetting and would the admission officers take interest in my profile.

      Thanking you

        Hi there,

"1. Is applying through SAI admissions sufficient for application to HEC Paris, or one have to apply throuhg the college's own application too? (and the deadlines for both ways of applying differ, thus that mean anything)?"
Why don't you ask HEC directly? Gives you the best answer. You can send them a message, for instance, via our Ask-the-schools-Page.

"2. Would I have a disadvantage, and the competition high, if I apply for 3rd & 4th round of application?"
For this question you may find my answer here helpful.

"4. Here is my profile and based on that can you suggest me the practical GMAT score i should be targetting for getting in to the schools."
Two scores are interesting for you and I recommend you to find out both for each school: the average GMAT score and the minimum GMAT score. How can you find this out? Please re-read my MIM eBook pages 50-53 (GMAT) and pages 73-76 (Sources of information).

        Best wishes
        Thomas

      Hi there,

I suggest that you write a new (brief) post that only includes your questions. Please try to be as concise as possible.

      Best wishes
      Thomas
