MBM from strathclyde

  • Posted by - deepak121287 - on 19 December 2012 - 10:03am

    hi ,

I had just got an offer from strathclyde for the MBM programme. I have been working with a telecom company in india for the past 3 years, but its a technical experience. So I have a few queries:

    1. Is it a program worth the money. Considering I am an international student.

    2. Also what are the prospects for the job oportunities in uk after the completion of the degree since I will have to give up this job to go for it.

    3. Are there any management programs and universities you can suggest me to go for which donot require management experience. My preferences are Europe and north america.

    Please help.

    Regards,
    Deepak

      Hi Deepak,

first of all: congratulations for your offer from Strathclyde. I am sure it will be an exciting experience for you.

      1) Is it a program worth the money. Considering I am an international student.
This is a difficult question. Of course the school is an established university in the UK - but your take-aways in terms of career benefit depend on many factors that not necessarily have to do with the program. The best ways, in my opinion, to proxy this are:

      • talk to current MBM students: I can bring you in contact to a student from India who graduated recently if you like.
      • screen the website for statistics on which companies come to campus
      • ask the career service of the school about their statistics: How many people found a job within three months after graduation? Which experience do they have with placing people from India?
      • in terms of job prospects in the UK, contact your embassy in London - they should have an overview on the economy and the legal regulations.

      2) Also what are the prospects for the job oportunities in uk after the completion of the degree since I will have to give up this job to go for it.
This basically goes into the same direction as before. In terms of the general conditions I would contact the embassy and openly communicate your worries to the school (e.g., "I like your program and I am happy to become accepted - but I am a bit worried about my job prospects in the UK. I would be interested in your opinion on this. Could you maybe let me know your experiences with placing people from my country after graduation?").

      3) Are there any management programs and universities you can suggest me to go for which donot require management experience. My preferences are Europe and north america.

Well, Master in Management (MIM) programs do not require management experience as they are designed for graduates or recent graduates. So, if you choose "Masters in General Management" in our Search Filter (Program Type) you should find all thee programs.

With 3 years of work experience, actually, you may consider doing an MBA instead of a MIM. With the MBA Compass we have our platform for this. The MBA brings you together with other people in the classroom who have work experience. The MIM brings you in contact with people who have no or less experience. Because of that, your learning effect in an MBA program may be higher and more related to what you are doing right now.

      Best wishes
      Thomas
