From an MBA

  • Posted by - Vishal90 - on 23 December 2015 - 10:58am

    Hello sir,

With a Bachelor of Engineering degree in hand, I have done MBA, with specialization in Media and Entertainment, from a reputed university in India and have passed with distinction. I worked into Media and Entertainment for 1.5 years. Meanwhile, I also pursued a certificate course in Digital marketing and have been practicing it with an online startup for a couple of months now. I wish to pursue MIM from LBS as I feel that would help me learn international
business management and give me the required foreign exposure, which would suffice to help me make a better career in the M&E sector. Assuming that I score good in the GMAT, what all ingredients do I need for my profile which is convincing enough for LBS to accept me? Also, please tell me, since I am already and MBA, am I fairly eligible for the MIM in LBS or any other equivalent b school?

    Thank you for reading.
Looking forwards to hearing from you.

    Regards

Thanks a lot for your opinion.
I would definitely refer your ebooks.
But before that, I wish to tell you that I have decided for an MIM on the following considerations:

      • As far as the duration and cost is concerned, it's much less for MIM than MBA.
      • My MBA was more restricted to the Media and entertainment, however, I somewhere feel, I need to learn general management in depth.
      • I am expecting a rise in my career growth both in terms of the job profile and salary, after I have pursued MIM from LBS.
      • Having 1.5 years of Work Experience, I believe, is more or less equivalent to being a fresher. Hence, I can restart with an entry level job post MIM.
      • For an MBA abroad, I'll need to wait for at least 4-5 years (work exp. required). I feel the future is quite uncertain. :P
Hence, please tell me if I am going the right way.
Can a masters degree act like an obstacle for acceptance in MIM in LBS?

      Thank you again.

      Regards

      Hi Vishal,

typically, the Master in Management is a program for graduates or people with less than 2 years of work experience. When you start, you will have more than 2 years. Also, you have an MBA already. Based on this, my opinion is: a Master in Management is not suited for you. If you still want an international management education abroad, I would apply for an MBA again (which does not make sense in terms of the content and learning, however) or for a specialized Master in a business function (e.g., digital marketing).

Also, I recommend you to read carefully my eBook "Business Masters". It will help you assess your profile and your ideal target programs.

If you still want to apply for the LBS MIM (or other MIMs) and wonder about the entyr requirements, please have a look into my eBook "MIM Entry Requirements" - there you find them for 54 schools and MIM programs that I interviewed (you find the answers of all schools).

      Best wishes
      Thomas
