Double Degree Catolica Lisbon with ESCP Europe Paris

  • Posted by - daimonds - on 12 June 2014 - 4:31pm

    Hello,

I have some problems to decide on my masters program: I am currently enrolled in the first semester of good but internationally unknown Master's program in Germany which will give me easily access to audit firms or smaller consultancies within germany. Now I received an offer to do a double degree at Catolica Lisbon with ESCP Europe Paris (I will receive two Master degrees, one from each school).

Since I will already turn 27 this year, I want to start my professional career as soon as possible (in the financial consulting or banking business). Therefore I tend to stay in Germany and finish the program here quickly (until the end of 2015). On the other hand I already gained some working experience abroad and would definetly prefer starting working internationally. Therefore I sometimes also tend to start the ESCP double degree in September (finished in June 2016). Furthermore the ESCP Paris offers me a much better perspective for the future. But as I mentioned i feel like I have to finish my studies as soon as possible.

Can you give me some advise/input/recommendations?

Thank you very much in advance!
    I

Thank you for your quick answer Thomas. I will read your book!

My only problem is not only to choose the right business school but also my age. I will turn 27 this year but I have experience in top tier consulting and m&a firms and graduated on top of my undergraduate class. do you think i have a big disadvantage due to my age? I am really concerned about it because especially outside from germany students are much more younger? can you give me some input here?

      Thank you so much!

        Hi Daniel,

I don't see a problem to get enrolled in a Master's program with 27 year of age. But why don't you ask the schools directly? It is so simple... just send an email or call them.

        Best wishes

Thank you very much for your answer thomas!

I thought about your words and for me it is very important to finish quick but also to have the opportunity to start working abroad. Therefore I applied for a Master's program in Warwick and at UCL.

Do you know both schools and can you say anything about the prerequisites? Particularly for UCL I am not sure about the placement since it is no business school at all. I am also wondering if it is worth to pay the very high fees. For the double degree program I would have to pay only the half. It is a tough decision since I do not know how both schools will place me internationally.

Thank you very much again and kind regards!

      Hi there,

it depends on your preferences and options. If you preference number 1 is job entry and your job entry options are ok for you - then do the job entry now. In 2 or 3 years, you can still do an MBA in case you feel that you need a degree from a more renowned reputation.

If your preference is to maximize the quality and reputation of your education NOW, then go for the ESCP offer.

In my MIM eBook, I outline these trade-offs more in detail. But in a nutshell, this is my advice.
