Studying at the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW)

The School of Business FHNW is a leading house in the field of executive education with about 150 programmes (EMBA, MAS, courses, seminars, symposia). In autumn 2008 two new English-taught Bologna Master’s programmes (MSc) in Business Information Systems and in International Management were launched.

The School is located in Basel, Brugg/Windisch and Olten.

The School of Business FHNW ensures that current know-how is broadly disseminated, accessible and applied. The entire spectrum of business topics is covered: Management and Leadership, Nonprofit and Public Management, Corporate Communication, Human Resource Management, Consulting and Coaching, Finance and Controlling, Business Processes, Business Information Systems and E-Business.

The educational programmes are in compliance with international accreditation standards.

The School of Business FHNW delivers international education programmes and cooperates with partners around the globe. This ensures an intensive exchange of lecturers and students. In comparison with other Swiss universities, our students have the most international experience.

The Location

The School of Business FHNW pools its strengths at three school locations: Basel, Brugg/Windisch and Olten.

City of Olten

Olten itself is a relatively small city on the major river Aare. Outside its medieval walls however, a modern city has grown which is especially popular as a major conference centre. This is due to Olten being the node of the Swiss railways: the cities of Zürich, Berne, Basel and Lucerne are all within half an hour's train journey and connections are frequent.

City of Basel

Basel is where three European nations come together (France, Germany and Switzerland) and this characterises the historic university city. At our very modern campus, minutes from the central station, a most unique degree, the tri-national BSc in International Business Management is taught.

City of Brugg-Windisch

Brugg is a small city near the German border where three main Swiss rivers meet. Together with neighbouring Windisch, it has a rich history dating back to Roman times. Brugg still has a medieval character with winding, cobbled streets, numerous historic buildings and the renowned Black Tower which has been a prison since the 13th century.

Accreditation

The FHNW is state accredited with federally-set tasks:

  • Degree Programmes
  • Post-graduate and Executive Education
  • Applied Research & Development
  • Consulting Services for external parties
  • Cooperation with universities and research institutions in Switzerland and abroad

The university is subject to period peer reviews. In accordance with the Swiss government's adherance to the Bologna Declaration, and recent federal law revision, a revised accreditation and quality assurance system is currently being set up.

The School of Business, as a reflection of its large international portfolio, has also pursued international accreditation. Several executive programmes are FIBAA accredited (Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation) and the school is a member of the prestigious AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business).
