Query reg. MiM admission - International Experience.

I am an Indian male, currently pursuing my undergrad in engineering. Will apply for MiM admissions next year (Sept 2016 intake). Current profile is as follows :

    1. GPA 7.0/10 (Indian grading system).
    2. TOEFL 119/120.
    3. Marketing Internship in PerfectCloud Corp (Canadian cloud security company - India office).
    4. Attended summer school in business and management at Cambridge for two weeks.
    5. Manager at Entrepreneurship Cell of my University.
    6. NSE (National Stock Exchange, India) certified for Investment Analysis and Portfolio Management.
    7. Head (Finance and Treasury) at University's annual Inter-department festival.

Aiming for a GMAT of 720+. Will give the test in January 2015.

My target schools are HEC, LBS, ESCP, LSE, IE Business School and Duke.

    I have two questions :

    1. I am planning to attend another summer school next year, either at Frankfurt School of Finance and Management or NUS, Singapore. How much of marginal effect will this have on the strength of my application, considering that I've already been to Cambridge? If it is a good idea to attend, which of these might be a better choice?

    2. As much as I would like to do my next summer internship in Consulting/Finance, it is pretty difficult for engineering undergrads in India to get such internships. I will however try for one at a PE/VC firm, and startups. Will an absence of an internship at a top-tier firm affect my MiM admission chances?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

      Hi there,

as to my best knowledge, this second summer school as well as the internship will have no impact on your admissions chances at most of the schools mentoined above. LBS and HEC, for instance, primarily focus on your university grade.

IE may be a diference as they relax the previous grade criterin a bit and accept alternative "assets" in an applicant's CV instead. The other schools may be somewhere in between ot tend to be similar to LBS and HEC.

On the other hand, such a summer school or internship may increase your experience and chance to get a job afterwards (particularly the internship). As long as the content is interesting for you, hence, you may still consider doing it (or trying to get it).

      Best wishes
      Thomas
