Studying at RSM - Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University

Over the past 40 years, Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University has firmly established its reputation as one of Europe’s leading business schools. Long before ‘global’ became an important descriptor for business education, RSM’s students, faculty and staff were already reflecting the diversity of the globalising world. Just like our host country, one of the world's renowned international trading nations, RSM has continued to expand and internationalise, cementing its status as one of Europe’s most international and innovative business schools. RSM offers a distinctive intellectual culture. We believe that leadership can be taught through a combination of intellectual and practical challenge. We believe that the difficulties encountered working in diverse teams fosters creative new approaches in business. We enjoy a reciprocal, supportive relationship with multinational companies. And we encourage a flexible, broad and sometimes iconoclastic mindset in matters of business practice and research. This distinct approach has helped RSM to establish a portfolio of top-ranked programs, as well as one of the world’s largest and most prolific management faculties.

  • At RSM you will be intellectually challenged by the highest-level academic content and under the direction of the sharpest business thinkers: faculty who draw on years of experience working for organisations as well as insights from their own research. You will challenge us: questioning facts as they are presented and critically-assessing assumptions. And you will challenge yourself: confronting your limitations, pushing past boundaries, discovering what really drives your behaviour and that of others.
  • Developing the skills to be able to turn leading ideas into outstanding results in business, requires action. All programs provide students with scope to act on their ideas in real or simulated business environments, from company associateships and internships to actual consultancy projects, international travel and participation in clubs and student-managed conferences.
  • At RSM, diversity is not only valued, it is encouraged and developed. In a uniquely open and cooperative environment, you will find the space to explore new ways of thinking, the inspiration to challenge ideas, and ultimately, the scope to develop your own potential as a future leader in business.
  • As one of Europe’s largest international business schools, RSM reaches an expansive international audience of future and current leaders through its portfolio of programs, services and academic activities. Staff and faculty bring constant new innovations into both business education and knowledge creation in line with our institutional mission: “ To be a leading international business school that creates, disseminates and applies managerial knowledge. RSM is guided by the future needs of international business and upholds professionalism, fair play and teamwork as central values.”

RSM - Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University - The Location

Within easy reach of the continent’s largest markets and with its unique access to continental Europe via the Maas River – the largest commercial port in Europe and the second largest in the world – Rotterdam has been a hub of international trade and commerce for centuries. This heritage of trade has left its legacy – Rotterdam today is a multicultural city that is home to a host of multinational and local enterprises, and with a growing reputation as an international knowledge centre in areas including supply chain management.

Rotterdam has a reputation in the Netherlands and beyond for its progressive outlook on many areas of urban life, from art, music and architecture (for which it is world-famous), to cinema, dance and theatre.

  • Each year, Rotterdam hosts numerous festivals, concerts and sporting events including the Fortis Marathon, the International Film Festival, the Fast Forward Dance Parade, North Sea Jazz festival, and the exuberant Caribbean Summer Carnival.
  • The nightlife in Rotterdam rivals that of Amsterdam’s, with a hip and creative young scene filling restaurants, bars, cafes and nightclubs.
  • During the summer, the ‘Beach at the Maas’ is a great place to enjoy the sun with relaxing music and food, and a great view on the river and Rotterdam skyline.

The Dutch are known for their acceptance of diversity and their command of foreign languages, English in particular. English is more widely spoken in Holland than in any other country on the continent, making life for foreigners particularly easy. Today, more than 160 nationalities live side by side in Rotterdam, a diversity that is reflected in urban life.

Travel to and from Rotterdam is also easy and affordable: a major international airport sits close-by and a fast-train to Paris passes directly through Rotterdam’s central station. A 40-minute drive will take you to Amsterdam, a 90-minute drive to Brussels, and a three-hour drive to France or Germany. With all these destinations right on your doorstep, you will find there is plenty to explore during your time in Rotterdam.
