Description:

The Ashridge Masters in Executive Coaching has been created and designed for coaches or consultants who as part of their practice, work in intensive one-to-one coaching relationships.

This two year part-time programme has been developed by experienced coaching practitioners who have a combination of research, psychological and organisation development experience.

If you are interested in becoming a professional executive coach, fully accredited and equipped with the latest knowledge in the field, this is the programme for you. It can provide you with an opportunity to review and re-launch your practice, employ the best of your natural skills, learn about yourself as a coach through supervision and co-coaching, and meet some of the most experienced practitioners in the field.

You will develop your coaching and mentoring skills, either to integrate into your existing consultancy and coaching work or to create a solid foundation on which to build a coaching and consulting practice.

The programme takes a relational psychological perspective, which will deepen your and your clients’ awareness of self and the web of key relationships within the organisational context. The aim is to develop your ability to respond to, initiate and enable change through the coaching process.

There are two distinctive features of our programme.

  • The first is that it is based on our extensive experience as organisational consultants, with a robust and challenging perspective on the nature of organisations and of consulting. We see organisations as social processes in which we participant as coaches and consultants. This perspective releases coaches and managers from the tyranny of finding the right answers, and challenges them to develop a reflective, inquiring and learning orientation to the practice of both leadership and coaching.

The programme draws on theories from complexity science, sociology and psychology to come to a distinct understanding of organisation and hence the role of both coaches and clients. We also understand that whatever theoretical insights we offer, our practice has to be justifies commercially. Each programme faculty member also earns their living as executive coaches and consultants and understand as much of the commercial realities as they do of the dynamics and patterns of organisational life.

  • The second distinctive feature is our orientation towards coaching as a relations practice. While we take it as read that serving our clients is the primary task of a coaching relationship, we have a particular perspective on the nature of the this relationship. We take the view that the relationship between coach and client is at the heart of effective coaching and is therefore the central vehicle for learning and change. We see this as a mutual and co-creating relationship, rather than a remedial contract to solve a problem.
